Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Wolf- Approximately twenty years old, Wolf is a five-eight guy with a military command of a special unit called the Ghosts. He’s not particularly big, but he’s still physically strong enough to chunk a car around. The Ghosts were commissioned to fight a race of lizard-like invaders known as the Dalth. Wolf got into the fight when his school was attacked, and a young girl was almost killed simply because he was there. He managed to lead them to safety by scavenging equipment from the Dalth and their mechs that he killed. His powers first started manifesting during this time. The first ability that showed itself was his lycanthropy. He can transform into an eight-foot tall, man-shaped wolf at will. His mind, however, was fractured. It created a second personality, one that’s full of bloodlust and hunger. However, the second ability to manifest itself was his empathy. It constantly bombards him with the thoughts of people around him. He uses it to download the thoughts and memories of the people he kills as both penance and a reminder. Two years into the war, he’s the most accomplished and feared soldier on the planet. He’s also responsible for figuring out how to adapt and improve alien technology to human uses and techniques. His mind is fracturing slightly under the weight of two years’ worth of war, but he’s managing to keep sane, if only barely.
Gorun- A dwarf, and their representative to Wolf’s Saber squad. He rebelled against the dwarves’ caste system and they exiled him for it. However, he was a capable enough soldier that they kept him close enough that he’d be there in case they needed him. As it turned out, he was a capable enough soldier to make an excellent envoy to humanity when they revealed themselves, but as an exile he also made for an excellently subtle insult. He and Wolf are very close friends, but neither are sure if they’d make good romance partners or not. Personally, I think they’re better off as bros, but it could happen.
Collick- A vampire of unknown age, Collick carries a pair of longswords, one called Love, the other Duty. The reason for this is because during the rite of passage all young vampires undergo, instead of choosing Duty and killing his Love (his girlfriend Leth) or forsaking his Duty for her sake, he took both blades and fought free. She still died in the end, but not until a century later. Collick carries both swords to this day, as a reminder to his elders that he is the only vampire in history to compromise between the obligations of Love and Duty. He was sent to Wolf partially as an insult and partially because they thought the human might kill him. Instead, the two have become fast friends with occasional benefits.
Siris- A shapeshifter, age unknown. An excellent judge of character, Siris was a rising star in the government of the Free Ones, as they call themselves. However, when the war broke out, the other Free Ones fought on the sidelines, playing the predator in the shadows to the Dalth’s rabid dog. Siris advocated open engagement alongside their fellow terrestrial races, but was quickly overruled by the more conservative members of the council. Two years into it, they finally realize the Free Ones cannot survive the war on their own and thus send Siris as their ambassador when the other races turn to humanity for help.
I don’t feel like typing out the rest right now, so maybe two a day until I get them sorted.
